QKD Tuesday Blog Hop- New Releases!!!

I hope you are enjoying yourself on the Tuesday edition of the Queen Kat Designs Stamp Co. Blog Hop. This is NEW RELEASE week and you are in for a TREAT!!! You should have arrived from Shannon's Blog- but if not, please go back the the QKD Blog to start at the beginning so you don't miss a thing!

As a DT we were challenged to show off the new releases using this sketch

I am so fortunate to get to work with the WIS KIT this month. The image is STUNNING and the accessory stamps the BEST! I stamped her out in Momento ink and then colored her up with my markers to match the background. The background paper is the new Gypsy Sister by Kaisercraft. I have been waiting to get my hands on this since I saw the first preview, but trust me, it is even better in real life. You WANT some!!! Don't you just love the way she is blowing bubbles? Does anyone ever outgrow blowing bubbles? To give them that shimmer I coated them with Glossy Accents and it is the perfect touch.

Rumor has it that the June WIS kit is almost already sold out, so I STRONGLY recommend that you get to the store and order yours NOW!

The next stop on the hop is the Whimsical Ink Sorority blog followed by Meredith's Blog.

When you finish the shop, be sure you end up at the store so you can pick up close outs of the remaining acrylic stamps, some NEW RUBBER stamps and then come back tomorrow for all the new releases!!!

Happy Memorial Day!

I have so much to say- I hope you will hang with me, but if not, I understand :)
First up, there is an extra special challenge at Friends Having Fun today. It is a Memorial Day theme and whatever that means to you! Colors, images, spring, activities, we want to see it!

for my contribution I used the fabulous freebie image from Fairy Knoll. I colored the flag with my Spica pens for some fabulous shimmer, these are SO easy to work with and perfectly acceptable for OWH cards. This came together with just the right amount of sparkle.

I want to share with you how very special Memorial Day is to me. When I was young, I remember my Great Aunts making a big deal about the day. It was when they drove, literally, all over the state visiting graves. I thought they were a bit strange. Now, I understand and appreciate what they were doing. However, this day has come to mean even more to me. As I have had the honor of participating in the Operation Purple Heart program with Heartmade Blessings, I have come to think of many of our lost service members as "my soldiers". I know that my feelings can not begin to compare with those of their family members. I do feel a sort of connection to them though and spend time this day, and many others, reflecting on them.

Always a bridesmaid....

When I saw the Burtonesque Dolls challenge was Wedding themed and that Tiddly Inks was Bling- I KNEW this is what was happening! All I could think of was those multitude of ugly bridesmaid dresses people talk about and inevitably there is at least one that is peach chiffon. Adding the stickles on the top layer of the dress gave a definite chiffon look to it. Her bouquet of thistles is just the finishing touch. Completely fun to create. The sketch is from Saturday Sketchers and was perfect!

Challenges:

The Burtonesque Dolls #4 - An Affair To Remember
Tiddly Inks #6 - Bring on the Bling
Sketch Saturday #104 - Sketch

Mailing comfort

This beautiful comfort afghan is being mailed in the morning to a lady who lost her Mother. I am so grateful to be able to be part of Heartmade Blessings. The honor of participating in such a wonderful group and assembling and making squares for these gifts of love is indescribable.

Butterflies can be beastly?

The challenge on Haunted Design House for Macabre Monday challenge #40 this week is beautiful beastly butterflies. When I first saw this challenge my thought was - well, I am not sure how to make butterflies 'beastly' or dark. Then my brain began playing with the colors and thinking red and black butterflies. It didn't take long for my vision to include the butterflies with a skull. The real creating happened during the process however. Once I had the skull cut out from a template I found here, it just began. I hope that all of you know the process I am talking about because it is what makes creating so much FUN! The moment your brain has ideas as your hands work. When you giggle and grin as you go.

I used a couple of different colors of Glimmer Mist and the butterfly shaped Glimmer Screen on an already cuttlebug embossed piece of cardstock for the background. I sprayed the skull with walnut ink and edged with charcoal chalk ink to help it stand out. The butterflies, ladybugs and fly are from a set called Things With Wings from SCACD and were stamped on assorted scraps then fussy cut before being placed.

We were challenged with an inspiration photo this week. I kept seeing the tuscan red color jumping out of it and used that when coloring Soleil.

When you finish the hop, be sure you end up at the store so you can pick up all the new rubber stamps!!

Friends Having Fun - Pop Culture Challenge

The Sex and the City 2 movie is coming out very soon. For the Pop Culture challenge this month at Friends Having Fun, we want you to take THIS quiz to see which character you are most like and use that character for your inspiration.

Ok- moment of truth here, I have never seen a single episode of Sex and the City or the movie. That required a bit of research on my part into "my" character. When I took the quiz it said I was Charlotte. I decided that the 9 to 5 image by Victoria Case for SCACD in a classic Channel style suit would be just about perfect! I stamped the image, colored and paper pieced and decided I was right, it WAS perfect. Then I attempted to make it into a complete card. From that point on it just plain didn't work the way I was hoping. So, here are my two attempts. I am REALLY looking forward to seeing what all of YOU come up with for this challenge! Let your inner diva SHINE!

I am so anxious for some lovely weather and SPRING! Yesterday we had a snow storm, YES a snow storm all day. I was determined to pretend it was Spring and pulled out my first Sweet Pea Stamps love - The Gumdrop Gang.

What could be more Spring like than Molly with a bouquet of flowers and white patent shoes?

I have made this card specifically to send to my friend Lisa's sister. She is very ill and this is a special request from Lisa. How could I, or anyone, say no? This just breaks my heart for everyone involved. You can read all of the details HERE on Lisa's blog.

Just a little pinch....

The challenge from Macabre Monday was
Devious Doctors & Fiendish Florence Nightingales

I know that this is typically Donna Fairy from PMS and a sweet and adorable image. However, when I read this challenge, the first thing that came to my mind was her holding this HUGE syringe. I knew I could play with it just enough to make it a bit gruesome and not so sweet. Sorry Katie and Diem, but I just HAD to!
I have a good friend who can not STAND paisley print, it makes her think of amoebas. Well, what could be more creepy than amoebas with skulls in them?
oh Nej & Sandi- I USED the tape! :D

Challenges:
Macabre Monday #39 - Devious Doctors & Fiendish Florence Nightingales
The Burtonesque Dolls #3 - black flowers and skulls
FBW #110- flowers with fairy, butterfly or angel
PMS Makeup for the Weekend #27 - Use 3 flowers

QKD Tuesday Blog Hop!

I hope you are enjoying yourself on the Tuesday edition of the Queen Kat Designs Stamp Co. Blog Hop. You should have arrived from Shannon's Blog- but if not, please go back the the QKD Blog to start at the beginning so you don't miss a thing!

Today we are to be sharing something that is monochromatic. I usually do a better job staying in the single color range, but this one, made with Busy Stamp Set, kind of got away from me - I just love it though, it makes me laugh!

The next stop on the hop is the Whimsical Ink Sorority blog followed by Meredith's Blog.

When you finish the hop, be sure you end up at the store so you can pick up all the new rubber stamps!!

Who loves you?

I was looking through the list of challenges online and just knew that I had the PERFECT image to work with for several of them. This is Little Oak Tree Owl designed by Elaine cox for Sweet Pea Stamps. I love these little owls. They are just so sweet and tender looking. Just perfect to remind someone how very special they are to me.

I really enjoy participating in challenges. I love how they guide the creation, but then other times it takes creativity to meet the challenge. I know that is what challenges are really all about, but I do enjoy the process!

Where do I fit?

Have you ever finished making something and just been in awe? One of those times when you sit back, look at it and say "Wow, that is AWESOME!"? I did with this one. It just got me, and I am very proud that I am the one who created it.

This is a wonderful goth fairy image from Stamp-It-Crazy. She reminds me of myself sometimes. Wondering where my particular brand of crazy fits in. Knowing that there are so many sides of 'ME' and that they might not all seem to work together, but they do and make me who I am.

Challenges:
The Burtonesque Dolls - Burton Chicks
Creative Inspirations #60 - Fairies
The Corrosive Challenge #63 - Sketch
Stamp-It-Crazy - Fairy & Sentiment - Barb said "it speaks for itself" - luv ya Barb!

In Honor of Army Spc. Tyler R. Seideman

This comfort afghan is being sent to the parents of Army Spc. Tyler R. Seideman. It seems such a small thing compared to the loss of their son, but it is all I know to do. I have had the honor of assembling this created with squares from many donors for the Operation Purple Heart program of Heartmade Blessings.

Happy Mother's Day

I really enjoyed using 'Aloha' to create a Mother's Day card. Pictures of Mothers with children are so precious and I especially enjoy these of the mermaids, Aloha and Carnation of May. Both so fitting for the creation of cards for the special Mother or Mother role in your life.

I want to take a moment and personally thank My Mom and all the Moms I know and love. I learn something from each and every one of you that helps me be a better person or better mother to my own children.

I also want to share one of the funniest things I have EVER seen. I have 3 brothers and 2 sons, so perhaps that is why, but it truly makes me laugh harder every time I see it. I end up in tears of laughter each time! It is Barats and Bereta Mother's Day video Enjoy!

Fluttering By with some challenges!

This week Flutter By Wednesday #108 is being sponsored by Meljen's Designs

A bit about Meljen's Designs:

Meljen's Designs (http://meljensdesigns.com) is a digital stamp company owned and illustrated by Melissa Jenkins. She illustrates whimsical, fun digital images inspired by her kids and family. The Meljen's Designs store officially launched on April 1 and it is steadily growing. The new store offers instant downloads, organized categories, and a search feature. We frequent new releases, freebies every Mondays at the artist's blog (http://meljensdesigns.blogspot.com/), and challenges every Thursdays at the DT Blog (http://meljensdesignsdt.blogspot.com/). Please visit the store to find more of Melissa's wonderful images!

The winner gets to choose 4 digi stamps from her store- how fabulous is that? In order to participate you need to use a butterfly fairy or angel and it has to be a new creation! Thanks for fluttering with us this week!

I used the Pixie Dust Fairy digi stamp from Meljen's Designs. I decided to mimic the stitch pattern in the image around the edge of the card. The pp has both butterflies and glowers on it and of course and extra flower in the corner, just for good measure. I put some Ranger Glossy Accents on the wings and like the look.

Challenges:
Flutter By Wednesday #108 - Open with butterfly, fairy or angel
Card Positioning Systems #165 - sketch
DU2DS #36 - digi image & flowers
Oh, Alice! #11 - card for a child or with a child image
Tellen's Place - Show us your flowers

I received a request to create a card with this wonderful image, Vampire Girl, by Che Gilson in black and red. I think I am loving the end result even more than the original version I made.

NONE of it wouldn't have happened without Che Gilson drawing the fabulous image and the Queen making it into a stamp. Keep 'em coming!!!
